Dawnforge Remembers
Today, the 11th of November, it is marked as Remembrance Day in Canada, where Dawnforge is located, and in all countries of the Commonwealth. In the U.S.A, where many of our staff and show hosts reside, it is Veteran’s Day. In New Zealand, France and Belgium it is Armistice Day, and in Poland it is Independence Day. On this day we remember who have fought, served, and in some cases died for their country, for freedom, for our safety.
In my time running All Things Azeroth, Dawnforge, and playing WoW, I have met many who have served their country, be it Canada, the USA, or other allies. On this day I remember them, their sacrifices, their resolve, and their actions. I remember the fear I felt for friends when I knew they were going into active battle zones, and how happy I was to know I had friends who served to defend freedom.
Both my Grandfather and Brother have served in the Canadian military. I am thankful neither served in war time, that neither had to fire their weapons in anger, and that I did not lose them to war. My brother served for a couple years as a Reservist in the Queen’s Own Cameron Highlanders, and he spent a couple of summers serving and being trained at several bases across Canada. I am sure his time there impacted him, and helped make him the person he is today. I wonder, at time, where I would be, what my life would be like, if I had followed in his footsteps.
My grandfather joined the military in 1949, and retired in 1971 from the Third Royal Canadian Horse Artillery. My father, his siblings, and my grandparents traveled around the country, from posting to posting, as my grandfather served his duty to the forces. When he passed away in early 2009, his local Royal Canadian Legion, as well as a few who served with him when he was in the military were there to pay their respects to a comrade who thankfully passed many years after his service ended.
So it is today, on the 11th of November, when so many in the world remember those who have been lost, who have passed before in service of their country, of freedom, of liberty, I ask that we remember all who have served, who have given their time and their efforts, and yes some even their lives, for the freedoms we enjoy today. It is in this that I play the following video be Canadian artist Roland Majeau, who also has US and UK versions of the song on his site, and ask that you thank those who have served, and fought, and lost in the name of Freedom. We will always honor, remember… and never forget.
Soldiers Cry (by Roland Majeau)
Talk of trouble is sent through the country
And we need an army
To fight for the right
Young men enlist and are sent to the battle
To fight the offender and help our allies
And the young men cry Oh Canada
Well gladly go and fight for thee
And the young men cry Oh Canada
Well fight to keep you free
The battles raging
Gun fire is blazing
A tired young soldier is clinging to life
Hes ordered off
And obeys by advancing
No hope of returning from the enemy fire
And the soldier cries Oh Canada
If it must be so, Ill die for thee
And the soldier cries Oh Canada
Ill die to keep you free
And we all miss oh Canada
The land where we all used to be
And we all long for Canada
The true north
strong and free
And the soldier cries Oh Canada
If it must be so, Ill die for thee
And the soldier cries Oh Canada
Ill die to keep you free
Far away we had seen a great danger
And yet theres a danger much greater within
The noise we make as we constantly bicker
Would hush not a whisper if we listen to him
All the thousands cry Oh Canada
Is that why we have died for thee?
And the soldiers cry Oh Canada
We died to keep you free
And the soldier cries oh Canada
Be true
And strong
For me
Please share your thoughts in the comments on this day, who you remember, and your wishes for those who still fight each day for Freedom.

April Joy reminder
Hello everyone! I just wanted to remind you all that the April Joy contest will be wrapping up in about 24 hours, and there are a few key things to do by then. First, send in your emails! If you don’t send in codeword emails from twitter, facebook, live shows and downloaded shows, you lose a lot of chances to win. Second, Follow and like. If you like each show’s Fan page on Facebook, and follow them on twitter, that gets you an extra two entries. Lastly, not long ago we added several J!nx gift codes to the contest, courtesy of the folks at J!nx. If you do not either subscribe to their mailing list, or like J!nx on Facebook, you CANNOT be eligible for these prizes. If your name is chosen, and you do not do one of these, you will lost out on the prize. Good luck everyone!
Dawnforge April Joy Contest
We are very happy to announce the first ever Dawnforge network contest. This contest will be asking you to promote and follow the shows on Dawnforge: All Things Azeroth, Group Quest, Obscurecast, Halfway Around the World, and More Than Megapixels on the various social media and sites online. In this regard you will be asked to do a few things to earn ‘entries’ into the contest. We will draw from all of the entries to choose the winners.
Twitter – each person to follow the individual show and network accounts on Twitter will get an entry. You must still be following the account at the end of the contest. Each week a host will post a keyword on the show’s twitter page which can earn another entry when emailed.
Facebook – each person to like the individual show and network pages on Facebook will get an entry. You must still be liking the page at the end of the contest. Each week a host will post a keyword on their Facebook page which can earn another entry when emailed.
Listening – If you listen to the show in download, you will get a randomly inserted keyword which you can email in to the contest. This keyword will not be said during live shows.
Live shows – For those shows which do a live broadcast, there will be a separate keyword said at some point in the broadcast that you can email in as an additional entry.
Bonus: Twice a week the official Dawnforge twitter account will tweet a message. Those who do manual like “RT: <message>” of this tweet will be entered for an extra chance to win.
The email to use for emailed entries is contest@thedawnforge.com. Each email will only count for one entry, so multiple entries each need their own email. You can enter once per keyword and once for each show you like on Facebook and follow on twitter. The contest will run from April 1st to April 30th at 11:59 PM CDT, with the winners being chosen via random.org in a special broadcast on Dawnforge Live on May 7th.
